Each Australian state and territory has different rules in relation to land or property transactions.

To have a property transfer document witnessed overseas, you should have clear written instructions from your legal representative. This will guide the Embassy staff through the requirements for your specific transaction.

 If you require verification of identity for a property transaction, you must attend an interview with original identification documents, client authorisation or mortgage and certification, and the subscriber or mortgagee's written instructions.

Once all the correct documents are sighted and certified, we will provide you with a DFAT Identity Certificate confirming that we have witnessed and certified your documents in accordance with the instructions from your legal representative.


We recommend that you email copies of documents and forms for witnessing to consular.moscow@dfat.gov.au prior to your appointment to ensure that all the paperwork is in order.

Please note that certain types of form witnessing  may involve additional notarial services and thus may incur extra fees (e.g. certifying copies of ID documents).

A consular official can also administer the oath or affirmation on an Australian affidavit.

•Your lawyer must provide clear instructions as to what they need in and on the affidavit. We can't provide legal information or advice.
•Before you bring an affidavit to us, contact your lawyer. Get their advice and specific instructions.
•If an affidavit contains attachments or is multiple pages, we will bind the pages together. Some receiving authorities don't accept bound documents. Ask the receiving document if they'll accept it.

Child Passport (Aged 16-17)

❗Please email us a scanned copy of the document that requires an Apostille at consular.moscow@dfat.gov.au prior to making an appointment.

We can legalise many types of documents for use overseas. Documents must be Australian public documents. This means:
•originals issued by an Australian government agency or official
•originals issued by a public Australian educational institution
•copies notarised by an Australian Notary Public

Issue of an Apostille (prepared within 72 hrs)

We can photocopy your original document, and certify it is a true copy:

•Documents must be Australian, or for use in Australia.
•We apply the following certification on it: "This is a true copy of the document presented to me". This is DFAT approved wording. We won't alter it.
•We don't certify or endorse the contents in your document. We only certify the copy is identical.
